Dental Crowns

A damaged or decayed tooth can cause you to feel embarrassed and put your oral health at risk.

Using CEREC® technology, our skilled dentists can craft a custom dental crown to restore a tooth in as little as one appointment.

Learn how Drs. Andrea Clegg and Thomas Nabors are transforming smiles in Nashville, TN, with natural-looking dental crowns.

Actual Patient

Take a Closer Look at a Dental Crown

The tooth is first reshaped to allow the dental crown to fit properly. The restoration is then bonded to the tooth. CEREC technology means you can leave your appointment with a permanent porcelain crown, eliminating the need for a temporary crown.

Why Not Pull  Damaged Teeth?

/

Patients often ask whether it is easier to simply pull damaged or decayed teeth. In most cases, our dentists do everything possible to preserve the tooth. Even a single missing tooth can cause the jawbone to deteriorate or your teeth to shift. By preserving the tooth, we can eliminate the need for treatments like dental implants while restoring the function and appearance of your smile.

Concerned About Cost?

The cost of your care will depend on your treatment plan and if you need preparatory treatment such as periodontal care for gum disease. It will also depend on how many teeth require a dental crown.

Beam Smile Design strives to make your dental care fit within your budget. We offer payment options that work for all of our patients. Our Nashville dental office also accepts CareCredit® to finance treatment. Our team will help you find a financial solution to make your treatment as financially accessible as possible.

We are considered out-of-network as we believe this allows us to provide elite care without the insurance companies dictating your treatment. We will happily help you file for reimbursement.

Dental Crown Timeline

CEREC technology means our dentists can craft custom crowns right in our Nashville dentistry office in as little as an hour.
CEREC technology means our dentists can craft custom crowns right in our Nashville dentistry office in as little as an hour.

Consultation

During your initial consultation, Dr. Clegg or Dr. Nabors will examine your mouth and discuss your goals to determine if a dental crown is the right treatment for you.

Preliminary Treatment

If you need preparatory dental treatment such as a root canal, dental implant, or gum disease treatment, this must be done first. Our dentists partner with trusted oral surgeons for implant placement and coordinate your dental care for seamless treatment.

Take Impressions

After any preparatory treatment is complete, or if you do not need prior treatment, we will take impressions of your mouth to craft your custom dental crown. Our Nashville dentists use digital technology, eliminating the need for messy putty impressions.

Prepare the Tooth

After your impressions are taken, your dentist will numb the area and prep the tooth. The tooth or teeth that will receive a dental crown will be carefully reshaped so that the crown fits properly.

Create the Crown

Your dentist will use your unique impressions to craft your crown. In many cases, we can craft your crown in our office in as little as an hour. Some cases may require a lab-crafted crown. If your permanent crown cannot be placed on the same day, your dentist will place a temporary crown.

Place the Permanent Crown

Once your crown is ready, Dr. Clegg or Dr. Nabors will bond the crown to the tooth. All that is left to do is enjoy your new smile.

Frequently Asked Questions About Dental Crowns

Q. What is the difference between a dental crown and a cap?

A. There is no difference. A cap is an older term used to describe a dental crown, but it is the same restorative treatment.

Q. How long will my dental crown last?

A. Crowns are made from durable porcelain. With proper care and maintenance, a dental crown can last for up to 15 years or more. Practice good oral hygiene, don't use your teeth as a tool, and be sure to visit our Nashville office for regular exams and cleanings.

Q. Are there alternatives to dental crown treatment?

A. If you have a front tooth with minor damage, such as a crack, chip, or discoloration, our dentist can often place a porcelain veneer to improve the appearance of the tooth. However, dental crowns are often better for extensive damage and for treating the back teeth. During your initial consultation at our dentistry practice, your dentist will determine the right treatment based on your needs.

Q. Will people be able to tell I have a crown?

A. Our crowns are designed with natural-looking porcelain instead of metal. This allows your dentist to precisely shade-match the crown so it blends with your natural teeth.
