Porcelain Veneers

WHAT ARE DENTAL VENEERS?

Do you have spaces between your teeth? Or maybe crooked teeth, small teeth, chipped or cracked teeth you want to be fixed? Maybe you have discoloration that isn’t resolved with whitening. If any of these issues sound familiar, porcelain veneers are a great solution for improving the appearance of your smile.

Skilled Nashville dentists, Dr. Nabors and Dr. Clegg, make tooth veneers by applying a thin porcelain shell and bonding it to the teeth. This shell is color-matched and custom-shaped to fit in naturally with your other teeth while correcting the imperfections that prevent you from having the perfect smile you’re looking for. And with the strength of porcelain, you can eat and drink normally.

There are two different types of dental veneers: traditional and prepless veneers. Prepless veneers require absolutely no preparation (removal of healthy tooth enamel) of the teeth at all, and some require minimal preparation of the teeth, depending on the type of case. Each case is different and each person has their vision of that “perfect” smile.

Dr. Nabors or Dr. Clegg will carefully analyze your needs, discuss your goals and expectations, and give you treatment recommendations that are right for you.

For many years, resin dental bonding was used to cover the front surface of teeth—and some dentists still use this method. Dr. Nabors and Dr. Clegg, however, only use bonding to repair chips or fill small surface problems, relying on the more natural appearance of porcelain veneers for creating beautiful smiles.

When a large amount of enamel has been removed (such as with a root canal), we may choose to use a dental crown instead of a veneer. The uneven surface of a damaged tooth can prevent a veneer from bonding fully. Dr. Nabors and Dr. Clegg will help you decide what solution is most compatible for your teeth and smile.

BENEFITS OF DENTAL VENEERS

All teeth are unique. Based on your dental history, your teeth can be shaped or colored differently than another person’s. Dental veneers are a cosmetic dental procedure designed to cover chips, cracks, and discoloration. Many patients prefer dental veneers as an alternative to orthodontia or teeth whitening.

  • Veneers vs. Teeth Whitening | Teeth whitening can make your teeth shine, but one of the downsides is that it has to be redone periodically. It’s not a particularly long-lasting solution. Additionally, teeth whitening doesn’t cover any of the gaps or cracks that you might have. Dental veneers do.
  • Veneers vs. Orthodontia | Braces do provide long-lasting teeth-straightening results but the process takes several months and braces can also get in the way of daily activities. Tooth veneers can make your teeth look and feel straight, even, and give the added benefit of whitened enamel that will make your friends jealous.

If you want results that last and don’t take a long time to achieve, then veneers could be the right option for you. Porcelain veneers will give you teeth that sparkle, are straight, and are evenly shaped.

TYPES OF DENTAL VENEERS

We offer both traditional and prepless veneers. Either option could be right for you. It all depends on the time you have to work with, how much enamel is on your teeth, and your personal preference.

  • Traditional Veneers | Traditional veneers are shells created to cover your teeth that are made from porcelain. We custom make these coverings in our lab to give your teeth a beautiful and natural-looking smile. Veneers are usually 0.5 millimeters thick, meaning that they are designed to feel seamless and natural on top of your teeth.
  • Prepless Veneers | Prepless veneers are also placed over your teeth to help give you a beautiful natural smile. These veneers are even thinner than traditional veneers. The main difference is that we can usually apply them quicker because we won’t need to remove a layer of enamel like we do for traditional veneers.

Prepless veneers and traditional veneers are both excellent cosmetic options for covering any chips or cracks in your teeth. Both help give your teeth a straight appearance. Both are designed to look like natural teeth and are designed to be long-lasting.

You’ll want to carefully consider each type of veneer before deciding which is right for you. To decide which veneers to choose, to come into our office. We can talk about the pros and cons of each option and work together to help you make your decision.

TEETH VENEERS PROCEDURE

TRADITIONAL VENEERS PROCEDURE

Traditional veneers are created and applied throughout several visits. On the first visit, we will remove a portion of your enamel to prepare your teeth for the veneers. Dr. Nabors or Dr. Clegg will take an impression of your teeth and send it to our lab for custom veneers to be designed. In the meantime, we will give you temporary veneers.

Once your veneers have been designed you will come back into our lab and we will bond the veneers back onto your teeth using a special technology. Before leaving we will make sure that the veneers fit the shape of your teeth and that they are comfortable. This appointment usually does not take very long.

PREPLESS VENEERS

Prepless veneers require only one visit! The process is much faster as there is no need for a temporary veneer. You can come in for your appointment, we’ll take your impressions, and then we’ll attach the prepless veneers. No enamel removal necessary!

And, if you change your mind, prepless veneers are removable! Unlike traditional veneers, we can take prepless veneers off your teeth if you decide you don’t like them, and there will be no residual damage to your teeth.
